He's six and a brat,
Claim the children.
He breaks up our games,
Tramples our castles,
Steals our toys.
He's only six, a baby,
Replies his mother.
Smiles like an angel,
Sucks his thumb,
Cuddles his teddy bear.
He's twelve and a terror,
Claim the neighbors.
Breaks our windows,
Tramples our flowers,
Steals our bicycles.
He's only twelve, a child,
Replies his mother.
Runs my errands,
Brings me tea,
Kisses me goodnight.
He's eighteen and a criminal,
Claim the courts.
Breaks our laws,
Tramples our citizens,
Steals our money.
I can't understand,
Cries his mother.
He's always been
Such a good boy!

The Soldier
Families left behind for families abroad.
Leaving one to aid another.
Sad goodbyes and tears are shed
For duty calls.
A soldier sacrifices.
Days are spent in unfamiliar land,
Far from where their heart lies.
Facing danger where they stand
Because duty calls.
A soldier sacrifices.
And sometimes they sacrifice it all.
Leaving one to aid another.
Sad goodbyes and tears are shed
For duty calls.
A soldier sacrifices.
Days are spent in unfamiliar land,
Far from where their heart lies.
Facing danger where they stand
Because duty calls.
A soldier sacrifices.
And sometimes they sacrifice it all.

New Adventure For Me
I just created this blog but have nothing to put in it at the moment. I've often written poetry or "truisms", as I liked to call them, but never even filed them as such. I like my own poetry, always writing what spills from my soul and I hope someone might read it and like it, too.
Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.
